Navigation & Workflows: Inventory & Attribution

Learn best practices and general steps to add or edit a new asset in 2NFORM.

No matter the module, 2NFORM provides a standard experience and data entry form to add a new asset or edit an existing one.

In this article, we provide tips for each of the data form tabs:

Note: The term is used generally throughout this article for brevity, but could refer to any hard asset, project, facility, incident, or activity.

Location Tab

Use the location tab to add the location of the asset and provide a unique ID. This tab is essential for creating a new data record.

Adding Location

There are 3 ways to add the location:

  • Use the Geosearch tool to zoom to a specific address. Then click on the map to drop a point. Clicking on the map will automatically populate the Latitude and Longitude fields.
  • Zoom and pan within the map to find the correct location. If you are in the field and at the asset location, use the Zoom to Current Location tool. Then click on the map to drop a point. Clicking on the map will automatically populate the Latitude and Longitude fields.
  • Enter values into the Latitude and Longitude fields. A point will be automatically created on the map at that location.

Adding a Unique Identifier

In every form, the top-most, left-most field is the unique identifier field and is marked with *. The value of this field must be unique.

See Best Practices: Unique ID Naming Conventions for tips on creating unique identifiers.

If you enter a duplicate value, you will receive an error message when trying to save. Your data will not be saved until you change the value.

The Save & Close button will not be enabled until the Unique Identifier, Latitude and Longitude fields have been populated.

Other Spatial Fields

Once the Latitude and Longitude fields are populated:

  • The Street Address, City, State, and ZIP Code fields will be populated for all groups. These values can be overwritten.
  • The Municipality and Catchment fields will be populated for all groups based on onboarding data. These values cannot be overwritten.
  • The APN field will be populated for groups that have provided a parcel layer. These values can be overwritten by clicking the `Enter Parcel APN Manually` checkbox and then editing the value.
    • To return to the auto-populated APN value, uncheck the checkbox.

manualapn

TIP: If there are overlapping parcels, the spatial intersection will select the APN of the topmost parcel. Manual selection allows you to refine the value based on your knowledge.

Other Data Fields

Depending on the module, there may be other attribute fields on the location tab. See the specific module Help Center articles for more information.

Area Tab

Use the area tab to add the polygon area associated with the asset. See the specific module Help Center articles for more information on what this polygon represents.

Draw the Polygon Boundary

The tools to create and edit the area polygon are below the Layer menu.

  • To draw a new polygon, click on the polygon icon. Click on the map to add the polygon vertices. Complete the polygon by connecting the last point to the first point.
  • To edit the polygon
    • Click on the pencil icon to add or move the vertex locations. Then click on a vertex to drag the location.
    • Click on the trash can icon to delete a vertex. Then click on the vertex to delete it.

See Best Practices: Delineating Area Polygons for tips on creating boundaries.

Total Area Field

When a polygon is created, the total area is automatically calculated in acres. In some modules, this value can be overwritten by clicking the `Input Total Area Manually` and then editing the value.

  • To return to the area calculated from the polygon boundary, uncheck the checkbox.

Other Data Fields

Depending on the module, there may be other attribute fields on the location tab. See the specific module Help Center articles for more information. In most cases, these fields must be manually entered and are not calculated automatically when the polygon is created.

Information Tabs

Depending on the module, there may be multiple other tabs that include attribute fields relevant to that asset. See the specific module Help Center articles for more information.

Contacts Tab

A contact is a person whose information you are tracking for data management purposes. You might need to have their email, phone number, or address available in case there is a question. This data in 2NFORM is used as reference material. The Contacts tab provides a form to track these types of contacts. You may add multiple contacts per project. Contacts will not have access to your 2NFORM customer account.

Files Tab

The Files tab provides a form to link to existing documents related to the project. You may add multiple files per project. 2NDNATURE highly recommends linking to file hosting services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or SharePoint rather than uploading a static file.

If you are collaborating with organizations outside of your organization, make sure that the files linked in 2NFORM contain the proper sharing permissions.
